Far from clear! If Ms Ní Chuilín really thinks that, then she is remarkably naieve. It is on record that fundamentalist Republicans have hi-jacked the Irish language in their superflous attempts to prove themselves "Super Irish". This does mean that many Unionists who might otherwise have taken up Irish seriously, now have grave doubts about the validity of doing so. Apart from all of that, the horrific expense of having everything translated into and out of Irish for all State and Judicial functions is certainly not justified in the present economic circumstances. The Irish Republic and the EU are both wasting monies unecessarily on translations designed to appease a vocal minority.

Well said Mike. I am not an expert either, but find myself in agreement with all you say. Certainly thorium nuclear power would seem a good option. So too is the sea bed tidal generation system. All do have a long way to go before total acceptance. Until that happens, what can be done about our exhorbitant energy costs today?

Hi Harry, thanks for your comments. I should begin by saying Lynda and I invested in a wind turbine a few years ago, and you have identified many of the issues - another being the price the annual service appears to have tripled!
The best bet for renewables, as far as I can see it, is seabed tidal - which, unlke wind, is predictable.
Beyond that, I see a future, maybe 25 years out, with small scale nuclear plants, run on thorium, which I believe to be both efficent and less dangerous than uranium, replying on hear rather than pressure for generation. But I am not expert, and at this stage, simply want an open-minded debate.

Hello Mike. Another week of very hard work, much appreciated. Regarding Home Heating Oil. Whilst this is highly relevant to everyone, the outragious costs of electricity and the (apparant) lack of interest from anyone in a situation to rectify over-pricing, has now emerged as a major elephant in all our rooms! The promotion of useless and highly expensive and inefficient wind turbines along with their costly subsidies born entirely by the customer is particularly frustrating in these times of actual poverty. When we want electricity, the wind doesn't blow, when it does blow it blows far too hard and the Turbine has to shut down, and the customer has to pay money for this shut down as well!! - NOT good enough! - This is well on it's way to be a major electoral issue everywhere. Something has got to be done, should it mean building our own and first nuclear generating plant. It is high time our politicians and citizenry generally came into reality. The nuclear option IS the most cost effective and reliable method of generating, and also the greenest. It is also extremly safe nowadays, thanks to the latest designs of plant. I would love to hear your views on this Mike and what can be done, or is already being done to salve the situation?

Well, I am not a golfing person Mike, due to time resrtictions, but your idea's do seem very good one's. Being a professional salesman myself, many of the things you say seem abundantly obvious. However, those in high places, including Ms Foster and Peter Robinson, do seem to reckon that the whole thing is not worth bothering about and a waste of time. More likely, actually, not to be an opportunity for self-agrandisement. They certainly would not see the benefit of a good sales presentation! Such a shame and a disgrace, when we pay them so much to work effectively in office. I think you should stick to your guns on this. Why not offer to do the job yourself with Assembly backing?
